Today I have the awesome T.S Krupa on the blog talking about her novel Safe and Sound. There is a chance to win her book and others via the link at the bottom of the page.
1.Can you give us a brief synopsis of what Safe
and Sound is about?
When
Jill met Jay Greenfield she knew she found her forever love. Together their
lives were perfect. But when a tragic accident takes Jay’s life, this young
bride is left to pick up the pieces. With support from her two childhood best
friends, Lanie and Stella, Jill attempts to piece her life back together.
Meanwhile, in the process of settling
the estate, Jill learns that her husband was not quite the man she thought he
was. She finds herself transported to the small beach town of Oak Island, North
Carolina. But the fairy tale ending she envisioned no longer exists. She must
face the reality that Jay is gone as she finds herself having a chance at love
one more time.
Safe & Sound follows the yearlong journey of love, loss, friendship, and
conquering the unexpected.
2. How did you come up with the characters in your novel
and who was your most favourite?
From day one, Jill and Jay Greenfield were always part of the original
plot. Stella and Lanie developed through the writing process. I knew that Jill
needed someone to help her through this process and I thought it would be one
friend but it soon came clear that it was actually going to be two friends.
Stella and Lanie are each so different but they complement each other very well
at the same time. They remind me of an old cranky married couple when they
interact with each other. I love all my characters but my favorite is probably
Ross. He is just so removed from the immediate situation that he brings a
breath of fresh air to a very sad situation. Additionally, he’s a musician and
surfer…very dreamy!
3. What was your favourite scene in Safe and Sound?
My favorite
scene in the book is actually in chapter 25. It was actually one of the last
chapters I wrote for the book. I think that in this chapter Jill is finally facing
everything on her own and it’s important to her healing process. But I also
love the simple and sweet conversation that she and Ross have one the beach.
For me that conversation lays the groundwork and trust they need moving
forward.
4. What
is the best thing about writing?
I have been in school for a
long time and writing in academia is very different. It depends on scholarly
sources and no real thoughts are your own. Creative writing is so freeing and
enjoyable for me. It’s nice to know that the words and characters were all mine
and I can stand behind that.
5. Do you have any other books planned?
5. Do you have any other books planned?
Yes I have several other
projects planned. As of right now they are all stand alone projects. I hope to
get started on my next novel by the end of this month and go from there.
6. Who is your favourite author?
6. Who is your favourite author?
This changes and my reading
taste can be so eclectic sometimes. But I really love J.K. Rowling and the
Harry Potter series. But as we speak I am eagerly awaiting the third and final
book in Deborah Harkness’s, A Discover of Witches series.
7. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Write with abandon and worry
about the rest later! I know it’s easier said than done. But when you get stuck
read what you have out loud, step away for a minute, the afternoon or the
weekend and come back with a fresh start. Finally, if all that doesn’t work,
start writing about something else. Even if you are describing the contents of
your grocery bags, sometimes a good distraction is all you need.
8. Please describe Safe and Sound in three words.
