Book Review: The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath by Ian Green

Today's blog tour stop is for fantasy debut The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath by Ian Green. This was action packed to say the least. Read on for my full review.

REVIEW

The Gauntlet and The Fist Beneath introduces us to Sargent Flore, her husband and her daughter. They lead a seemingly quiet life, but this is very short lived. Mysterious lights are starting to appear and Flore goes to investigate, but whilst out an orb appears over her village and shatters everything when her daughter is abducted. Now it is a race against time to save her and protect her people.

This is a story that doesn't pull any punches. We are instantly thrown into the action of The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath not giving you any time to breathe. Word of advise is, I wouldn't try and latch on to a favourite character as trust me, none of them are safe.

I did actually really enjoy the action scenes in The Gauntlet and the Fist Beneath and it made me realise I don't actually read a lot of fantasy with intense fight scenes. I found these some of the most engaging parts of the story and it certainly added to the fast pace and intensity of the storyline.

Although being thrown right into the action was great, I felt like there was a lot of back story and explanation missing in those first few pages. At times it did feel a bit like a second book in the series and a lot of the time I was left feeling like I had missed something. I don't know if this was just the way I read it, but I feel more explanation was needed at the beginning to help me catch up.

However once I was past that, the world building was fantastic. I'm sure as we get further into the story more will be revealed.
