Book Review: Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney

Sometimes I Lie is was a book that I just knew I had to get my hands on and read. It still amazes me that despite the amount of thrillers I read that writers still manage to write something completely different. Sometimes I Lie was no exception and I just had to share my review with you.

REVIEW

This book was so completely and utterly twisty and so gripping. I have read loads of thrillers but this one had a vice like grip on me and just would not let me go. I don't even know where to start to explain just how good this book was!

There is always that worry that when you have read as many thrillers I have had that the next one you read is going to have some similarities, but Sometimes I Lie felt so fresh and also gave us a unique character voice with Amber talking to us whilst in a coma. What was also so clever about this was that we start with Now, with Amber in a coma then we go back to Then- the lead up to the accident and we also have Before- the catalyst if you like for everything that happens after. I know this has been done before, but Alice's take on it has you racing through the pages to get back to the little cliffhangers she leaves.

I won't go into too much detail with this book as I don't want to give anything away, but I will reiterate the points about a main character Amber.

1. She's in a coma
2. Her husband doesn't love her anymore
3. Sometimes she lies

The only thing that let this book down for me was the ending. I definitely missed something and was left with a few questions that I desperately wanted tied up. If it hadn't been for that this definitely would have been a five star read.

Sometimes I Lie is very cleverly written. I love it when thrillers manage to completely and utterly hoodwink me. I did not seeing that ending coming at all. It was a total shock and left my head spinning. I have been shouting about this book loads to everyone I know and been discussing it those that have read it.

A perfectly twisty and intense thriller. Honestly get your copy asap!

  2. This sounds like a perfect read for me. I'm such a massive fan of thrillers and mystery's but often I find myself let down by them. The premise of this books sounds really interesting though so I'm 100% adding this to my TBR to read when I'm in the mood for a thriller! Great review!

    1. Thanks so much Kirsty. Yeah some of them are just too easy to guess the outcome, but I would be very surprised if you guessed this one!

  3. I finished this last night and found the same as you - I'm sure I've missed something key about that ending! Great book though, I loved the switching narratives and claustrophobic feel of the coma chapters.

    1. I'm glad it's not just me! I might ask around to see if anyone knows what that was about. Such a good book though wasn't it! I hope she writes more!

  4. I just want to know whether Claire is gone for good if so who sneaked that gold bracelet into their room.

    1. SAME! I actually got the chance to ask the author about it and she said that she deliberately left it like that and only she knows the answer! Argh want to know!
