Book Review: Gilded Cage by Vic James

I just could not get enough of this book! A scarily familiar world with a horrifying twist. Modern day Britain but with a backwards society, people like you and me having to serve 10 years of our lives as slaves, whilst the Equals- those with magical abilities rule our world.

This is a book that you won't be able to get out of your head. It was one of those reads where you just can't wait to get back to your book.

Told in multiple narratives and with a lightning fast paced, this was such a compelling read. I loved getting to know each of the characters in turn and it made the read all the more exciting.

Everything was just so vivid from the setting to the characters, all thanks to the incredible detail and world building from Vic James. The stakes are just impossibly high for them all and on many occasion I found myself gripping the book tightly in anticipation of what was to come.

Dark, twisted and where no character is safe, this made me think of  Game of Thrones, try not to get too attached!

Ah the ending, how could Vic James do this to us?! The wait for book two is of course going to be agony! However I am very excited to see where this story takes us next. Vic James's imagination is just brilliant. I didn't even one hundred percent know what it was I was going to get out of this book, but it ended up blowing my mind.

A fantastic dystopian read that despite how many others are out there in the book world, this one still managed to be unique and have me hankering for the sequel.

  2. Sounds like one to try! I read Divided Kingdom by Rupert Thomson recently and it's made me want another dystopian novel.
