Book Review: Christmas at Lilac Cottage by Holly Martin

I got so much enjoyment from reading Christmas at Lilac Cottage. It was the perfect read to curl up with and get all cosy. Set in the idyllic seaside town of White Cliff Bay, this is where we meet the lovely Penny Meadows. Penny lives in the gorgeous Lilac Cottage up on the hill. She has one of the most interesting jobs- she is an ice carver and creates some of the most beautiful ice sculptures. Penny is mostly happy with her lot, or so she tells herself, but she is actually pretty lonely, so when a couple agree to rent out her annex, Penny is hoping that friendship is on the cards, but for Penny it may be more than just friendship this festive season.

This was just the type of cosy read I love reading at Christmas time. It had all the Christmassy loveliness that I expect to find in this type of book. The story is just so heartwarming and more than enough to make you smile with the brilliant characters and the community of White Cliff Bay. I just adored the togetherness of the seaside town; everyone may have known each other's business but they were all there for one another and made it somewhere I would want to live. Holly is great at creating these wonderful settings and characters you can't help but fall in love with.

Penny was also a main character that instantly got me on side. I really felt for her and how lonely she was and I just wanted things to work out for her. I was so excited for her when the couple she was expecting to turn up, weren't quite what she was expecting. Cue all the festive shenanigans with mince pie making, gingerbread house making, tree decorating, ice carving competitions and a Christmas Ball! Ah I just wanted to be there right with Penny.

This is a fantastic book to pick you up and help you escape from the world for a little bit. A fantastic Christmas read.

Christmas at Lilac Cottage is out now and available from Foyles
