Book Review: Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige

Having already been a fan of Danielle Paige's previous books, The Dorothy Must Die series, I was thrilled to see that she had a new series coming out and that it eluded to the stories of the Snow Queen, Snow White and Frozen.

I really liked the way this started off as it was so far from what I was expecting and instantly peaked my interest. How did snow end up in a high security psychiatric ward taking pills to control her emotions, her seven dwarfs as she calls them, and where was this story going to take us. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow finds herself in more danger than she ever imagined, from a Father who wants to destroy her.

Although this was good and I did like the story idea, sometimes Danielle's descriptions had me struggling to picture the world of Algid. They were a little hazy as I tried to put myself in Snow's place. However this didn't happen all the time and when done well I was sucked back into the story and the world building became great again. I really did like the story concept and how Danielle managed to make it so different to the original tellings, but still allude to them.

I'm not sure how I felt about the love triangle, square even, this girl just seems to attract guys like a magnet! But luckily it didn't detract too much from the main story. Overall this story had good bits and bad bits. The good bits did make up for the bad though as they were really good and I still think I will give book two ago based purely on this.

I must say the ending was pretty twisted and quite the shock. Not at all what I was expecting. Dorothy Must Die is still my favourite series from Danielle, but I like what she has done in this story. I am still looking forward to book two though.

Stealing Snow is out now and available from Foyles
