Review

OMG I loved this book! This was exactly the type of read I needed right now. It's fun. light-hearted and funny; it gave me a massive boost whilst reading it.

Jessica Beam is a girl who knows how to have a good time, she is the life and soul of any party, but she's not quite so good at taken responsibility and turning up for work on time or having enough clean clothes. Suddenly finding herself incredibly down on her luck with no home or job, Jess seeks out her long-lost Grandmother Matilda. Things however though aren't quite going so well for Matilda. She is in quite a bit of debt and her 1950's Good Womanbooks she was so famous for are out of print, and not looking likely for reissue. But with Jess's help they are thrown an unexpected lifeline, all Jess has to do is show that the Good Woman Guides still work today. But can Jess transform herself being the rebellious party animal that she is into a demure, vintage lady and at the same time capture the heart of the womaniser that is Leo Frost?

I had a feeling this was going to be good, but it was actually even better than I thought it was going to be. It is definitely the best chick-lit novel I have read so far this year, and it is going to take quite a bit to top it!

I must admit that initially I wasn't exactly Jess's biggest fan as she seemed to be a just a little bit too carefree, and was slightly shocked in her opening scene and I wasn't sure where this story was going to go. However she very quickly won my heart as I started to get to know her more. She certainly isn't your likeliest of heroines, but this is partly what made the book so unexpected and all the more fun to read. I did however instantly like Matilda's Grandmother. She actually kind of reminded me of my Nan, if a little more old fashioned. I loved how Jess and Matilda were such complete opposites, especially when it came to their dating tips. And once you really get to know Jess, she is actually pretty awesome and I loved how her character progresses through the book. Apart those two there some brilliant supporting characters like Peach, Matilda's assistant and also some truly loathsome ones- Summer! Grr she made my blood boil! And then of course there is the 'romance' interest, who teaches you not to take people on face value.

I officially love Kirsty's writing. It's completely fresh and easy going, it's so easy to get lost into; it's true escapism. She also didn't fail to make my laugh out loud, her humour is so unique and I think I basically had a massive smile on my face the whole time I was reading.

This is the ultimate rom com, I absolutely loved it. Kirsty is the queen of chick-lit!
