Beyond Grace's Rainbow by Carmel Harrington

Beyond Grace’s Rainbow is the deeply emotional and poignant story of young single mother Grace Devlin. With a wonderful cast of supporting characters and plenty of charm, this will have you laughing and crying at the turn of a page.

What a beautiful, beautiful story this was! I have been hearing loads about this, what I can now call an incredible book, but just have not found the time to read it and now I'm wondering why I put it off for so long!

Beyond Grace's Rainbow tells the story of Grace Devlin; a single parent to her son Jack. She has gone through some really tough times and more are yet to come, but she has an absolutely amazing group of friends that are there for her in every way. I really wanted to have them as friends for myself, they were the most supportive, lovely bunch of people. Everyone should have friends like them.

I really had no idea what to expect when I started reading this, but what I got was an absolutely amazing story. I do not think I have ever experienced so many emotions from one book. For quite a while afterwards it was all I could think about. I was completely and utterly absorbed in Grace's world and I didn't want to leave. I loved every single one of the main characters and they each had their own story. I had a particular soft spot for Gerry. He just had the ability to cheer everyone up and just lighten the mood. The character I could relate to the most though was Abby, she described herself as exactly how I feel right now, "not alone but lonely". It was suddenly like, oh my god, this character is me!

I loved Carmel's ability to write what every single character, be they a big character or small character's thoughts in scenes, as it really added to the whole picture and it is something that I have never come across before in fiction stories.

I really really want to go on and talk about this book forever, but I will not spoil it and give anything more away. Carmel has just written a story that will completely blow you away. Just be prepared for a roller coaster ride of emotions.

9.5/10
